TO OPEN AT THE LOS ANGELES THEATER CENTER FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10

AWARD-WINNING STAGE DIRECTOR JEFFREY ANDERSON-GUNTER IS SET TO DIRECT AND STAR IN THE LIMITED ENGAGEMENT

BEVERLY HILLS, CA ' FEMININE JUSTICE, a thought provoking comedy by noted Jamaican playwright Basil Dawkins (Forbidden and Parson and Mrs. Jones), opens Friday, October 10 at the Los Angeles Theater Center (514 Spring Street).

Presented by The Caribbean American Repertory Theatre West, Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter (Union Square, Hudson Street with Tony Danza), who received a Drama-Logue Award for Best Director for Beef No Chicken, is set to direct and star in the limited engagement.

What happens when an abusive psychiatrist batters his wife, then takes off to be with his lover, has a serious car crash and in an unconscious state comes face to face with God? What does he do, when to his amazement, he discovers that God is a woman? How does he deal with him? Basil Dawkins? FEMININE JUSTICE tackles issues of spousal abuse and the status of gender prejudices in society, particularly among professionals and the upwardly mobile.

Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter recently received critical acclaim for his directorial work in the revival of Ntozake Shange?s For Colored Girls, which also garnered five nominations from the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Awards. In 1996, he received a Drama-Logue Award for Best Director for Beef No Chicken. Anderson-Gunter is the artistic director for The Caribbean American Repertory Theatre West. with its sister company in New York. On Broadway, his acting credits include: Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope; Reggae; But Never Jam Today; Your Arm's Too Short To Box With God. His television credits include being a series regular on NBC's Union Square and ABC's Hudson Street with Tony Danza. For the screen, he had starring roles in Marked for Death with Steven Segal, Only The Strong, Don't Be A Menace'with the Wayans Brothers, Predator 11, Naked Gun 33 1/3, and many others.

In addition to Anderson-Gunter, FEMININE JUSTICE also stars Paul Campbell, Karen ffolkes and Catherine LeOrisa. Campbell is one of Jamaica's premiere actors. His credits include: Third World Cop, The Lunatic, Dancehall Queen, Going to Extremes, to name a few. ffolkes has been featured in Keenan Ivory Wayan's Most Wanted, Alice Walkers' soon-to-be-released Everyday Use and How Stella Got Her Groove Back. FEMININE JUSTICE marks LeOrisa's Los Angeles stage debut.

The creative team for the production includes set designer Michael Boucher, lighting designer David Toledo and sound designer Lee Sanders.
